The main goal for the project is to pilot a new electronic data collection form for the comprehensive geriatric assessment within a special care home in Warman, Saskatchewan. The project aims to assess the feasibility, usability, and effectiveness of the new form in collecting data for the assessment of older adults within the care home setting.


This will involve several different steps for the team, including:


- Collaborating with the special care home in Warman, Saskatchewan to introduce the new electronic data collection form.


- Supporting approximately 100 participants in completing the assessment using the new form.


- Collecting feedback from participants and healthcare professionals on the usability and effectiveness of the new form.


- Analyzing the data collected through the new form to assess its feasibility and potential for implementation in other care home settings.


Deliverables


The tasks that the team will need to complete to achieve the project goal include:


- Introducing the new electronic data collection form within the special care home.


- Support participants in completing the assessment using the new form.


- Collecting feedback from participants and healthcare professionals on the usability and effectiveness of the new form.


- Analyzing the data collected through the new form to assess its feasibility and potential for implementation in other care home settings.



Final deliverables should include:


- A report on the feasibility, usability, and effectiveness of the new electronic data collection form.


- Recommendations for potential implementation of the new form in other care home settings.


- Training materials for healthcare professionals on using the new form.


Mentorship

Our team includes experienced researchers, trainees, clinicians, carers, older adults, and interested community members. Our partnering organization has exceptional IT support. Staff on site will provide support, mentorship and assistance to facilitate data collection. As a patient-oriented research team, equity, diversity, and inclusivity are highly valued within our team as we strive to build individual and team capacity.

BetterLTC (led by Dr. Roslyn M. Compton) was established in 2013. The team is interprofessional, national and international, and intergenerational (age range 18-85 years; 15 older adults between 65-85 years of age). Through our collaborations and partnerships with for-profit and not-for-profit community organizations, BetterLTC acts through knowledge mobilization, education, advocacy, and policy to challenge ageist healthcare services to support older adults to grow older in their choice of place with the support and services needed. Current partners include Sherbrooke Community Centre, Saskatoon; Golden Health Care Management Inc., Saskatoon; 3 rural and 3 urban long-term care homes in Saskatchewan; Saskatoon Fire Services; College of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Alberta; College of Pharmacy and Nutrition, University of Saskatchewan; St. Thomas More College, Saskatoon; University of Regina, Regina; Memory Café, Crossmount Saskatoon; Saskatoon Council on Aging; Saskatchewan Long-term Care Network; Interprofessional Education, USask Health Science; the Saskatchewan Health Authority; Canadian Gerontological Nursing Association; Nav-CARE, British Columbia; and, the Canadian Red Cross.
