creative and innovative thinking project planning information management collaborationHow will your company respond to the 5G revolution? Students from technical programs will analyze how the adoption of 5G may affect areas related to your industry, organization, or occupation and will report on their findings. The focus of the study may include
- Communication and media,
- Equipment, tools, devices, systems,
- Finances,
- Inter-connectivity between technologies (Internet of Things [IoT]),
- Occupations and employment,
- Safety, speed, and efficiencies, and/or
- Tasks and processes.
Students will create a report and/or related documentation (equivalent to a 10-page document), which may include conclusions and recommendations, instructions or procedures, and/or proposals. Additional documentation may be created to complete the requirements of the project. Documentation may be in the form of:
- Correspondence
- Formal and/or informal report
- Infographic
- Slide report
- Visual/oral presentation
- Visual story

Project Examples
What is the 5G Revolution?
5G is the imminent global paradigm shift in wireless standards that will allow devices to connect with each other in rapid and seamless information sharing. Once implemented, 5G networks will increase the speed of data flows and decrease latency or wait time to near real time responsiveness. The changes will be so significant that it is difficult to predict exactly what new businesses, technologies, industries, and services will arise from the implementation of this new technology. With machine to machine communications, 5G within the next 5 years will significantly impact media, workflows, and occupations in all facets of business, agriculture, manufacturing, construction, urban planning, education, transportation, energy, and financial services.
How will this project help you prepare?
Students in aviation operations and in building, civil, environmental, electrical, electronic, and fire protection technologies programs will provide you with relevant information for managing workplace changes resulting from the 5G revolution. They will create a report that will identify and describe company and industry challenges within the areas of technologies, processes, human factors, safety, and/or inter-connectivity.
Examples:
- Students will examine existing network services (e.g., automation, diagnostics) and communication networks (cloud-based, mobile broadband, etc.) within your company and will describe how 5G can enhance services
- Students will examine an existing model within your industry (e.g., medical data management) and provide conclusions on how 5G will transform this model
- Students will review common operations and maintenance processes and practices within your industry (e.g., building temperature control and ventilation, aircraft refuelling) and provide a proposal on how to optimize these processes using IoT

If you are interesting in this course, but don't have a specific project in mind, simply submit a project proposal that says "Yes, I would like to find out how students can research the impact of 5G on my business." The instructor will work with you to determine the students' project focus.
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:
Provide a dedicated contact who is available to answer periodic emails or phone calls over the duration of the project to address students' questions.
Be available for a quick phone call with the instructor to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the course.
Incentives, prizes, and/or awards (hereafter referred to as “Incentives”) may or may not be offered at the sole discretion of the organization and awarded upon the completion of the project. Instructors will not be involved in any part of the selection, ranking, or awarding of Incentive winners. Organizations that elect to offer Incentives are solely responsible for the screening, selection, awarding, and provision of any Incentives. Seneca College assumes no liability and is not responsible for the selection, ranking, awarding or provision of the Incentives to the winners.
