Students in this program/course will work with company provided data to answer questions pertaining the company concerns. They will utilize statistical methods to transform the data into insight for making better business decisions. This includes analytics in three broad categories of descriptive analytics, predictive analytics, and prescriptive analytics. Students will use Microsoft Excel and PowerBI software to produce their work.

Students in groups of 3-5 will work with your company to identify your needs and provide actionable recommendations, based on their in-depth research and analysis.

Project activities that students can complete may include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide descriptive statistics with respect to the data on hand. This include creating distribution from data, measures of location (i.e., mean, median, etc.) measures of variability (i.e., range, variance, etc.), and measures of association between variables (i.e., covariance, correlation coefficient, etc.
  • Create data visualization including tables, charts, geographic information systems charts, advanced charts, and data dashboard. This includes the discussion of applications of data dashboard with respect to the identified business problem
  • Statistical inference making principles will be used to deliver estimates for variable(s) of interest including point and interval estimates.
  • Deliver a regression analysis of the data, if necessary, which is a statistical method used in developing an equation that describes the relationship between two or more variables of interest. This method is highly recommended when making decisions on spending significant amount of capital to build, improve, or disrupt a business process.
  • Forecasting methods may be used to determine the outcome of business decisions regarding production, advertising, etc.
