Amidst COVID-19, a lot of opportunities for virtual education opened up. We have been delivering our children mathematic-based training program online over the past two years.

This is an action research project.

Project Name:

Tool for empowerment of young students who are looking for alternatives to learn the concepts of Mathematics.

Goal of the project:

To develop an online accessible digital platform that supports linking musical tones while using a physical Abacus.

The tool will stimulate an increase in the ease and speed with which young children mentally solve the simple mathematical operations of addition and subtraction.

Project Objectives:

· To support the use of musical sound in conjunction with visual Japanese abacus (Soroban).

· By August 31, 2022, to launch a system of accessible, online learning using a digital abacus and sound available on most computers or mobile devices.

Deliverables

Scope: Stages of student involvement in the project

Guided by project manager, the Riipen intern student will experience the following stages:

Introduction: (5 hours)

· brief on the project, its purpose, and requirements

· frequent and regular communication with the project manager

· guided discussion of current research articles and papers to provide a basis for understanding the history, development, and significance of the project

Development: (40 hours)

· introduction to the digital platform development processes

· assisting in the development of a data base to record participant experiences

Design: (20 hours)

· offer input into content, for example, sample mathematical operations (Addition and Subtraction)

· prepare a report on participant involvement and degrees of success, statement of observations and suggestions for improvement

(the report design is done in consultation with the project manager).

Implementation (15 hours)

· Assist in the development of a Poster Presentation

Mentorship

With 30 years of entrepreneurial experience, and mentoring college and university students in various capacity, I freely share my work and life experience to those who seek to grow and learn. I am good at communicating through the use of technologies which I think is important for the project to succeed.

There will be an experienced academic researcher to guide the intern student on this project.

We like to share our communication methods with the students at the start of the project. A Non-disclosure agreement should be signed from both parties prior to the start of the project.

Additional Benefits to Students:

· While the student works with me, a dialogue forum will be conducted by the researcher. The dialogue will encourage improved practice, communication, and information exchange.

· The activities throughout the project will support content development that may lead to Journal article submissions for professional practice.

Education, Technology

Amidst COVID-19, a lot of opportunities for virtual education opened up. Our company has pivoted our in-person children mental mathematic-based training program into two delivery models: i. Virtual classroom with a live teacher, and ii. Hybrid model - in class with a Facilitator and a virtual teacher.

Our current students are ages 4 and up. We are currently developing a new training program for toddlers and students with special needs.

Our products include curriculums and lesson plans. The main service is delivered to students through a virtual or hybrid setting in schools. We also offer professional training to educators.
